As the weather was iffy here in St John’s today I decided that this would be an off-the-bike day. I got up a little later than usual and went for a walk along the wharf to check out the ships including what seemed to be the bulk of the St John’s based CCG fleet. It reminded me of a time, 25 years ago when I was given the opportunity to be part of the senior leadership team of this amazing national institution as the Deputy Commissioner. I look back fondly at this part of my public service career. To this day I am inspired by Coasties, those dedicated and professional men and women from all regions who continue to uphold the fine traditions and reputation of the Canadian Coast Guard, and who deliver on its moto of Safety First, Service Always.
Here are a few of the larger vessels in the fleet.
Switching gears now.
For you who have been following this year’s Retirement Rides you may have noticed a distinct lack of news on the gastronomic side of things. Well as they say there wasn’t much to write home about. Except until now! Since I’ve arrived in St-John’s I have been to 5 really good restaurants, all of them on Water Street.
I had oysters at Adelaide Oyster House
